Richard Galliford Honoured with MBE

We are pleased to announce that Richard Galliford, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List for his work with the youth of Barnsley and overseas. Richard worked as a Scout Leader and a Venture Scout Leader within the District, leading a trip to Romania to undertake work at an orphanage prior to going out to Ghana with a group of Venture Scouts where they built and furnished a school. As a result of his involvement in Ghana there are now strong links between Penistone Scouts and a Scout Group formed in Ghana and a number of schools have been set up.

Barnsley Pennine Announce New District Chairman

Since the sad loss of Stan Bellamy, early in 2006, the District has been without a Chairman while we searched for the best person for the job. We believe we have now found that person, and he has agreed to join with us to actively promote Scouting within Barnsley Pennine, as we move into the centenary of Scouting. Our new incumbent is Tony Oates, whom many of you will know from his previous work in the District as District Commissioner and where he has run many camp fires, to his later positions in South Yorkshire County as ACC Scouts and more recently County Scout Leader. We welcome Tony and I am sure he will ensure that Pennine continues to grow in Barnsley, South Yorkshire and the UK.

Barnsley Pennine Launches Zodiac Award

For those of you that enjoyed the Dragon Award we have a new award for you to try, this time we are in Scotland and for the Bronze Award you need to complete 8 nights, camped in different months of the year, and at least three of the challenges. With all the events planned for 2007 it should be easy. The badge is open to Cubs on their link, Scouts, Explorers, Network and Adults; so let’s see what we can do.

The rules and record sheet can be downloaded here.
