On Sunday the 10 May the District held their 5-a-side competition. The league results are detailed below. Please see the Cub and Scout pages for photos from the event.

Barnsley Pennine has a new DC: Bruce Meek, who was put into post by the County Commissioner at the end of October 2008 after we lost our previous DC in July. I am sure you have all met Bruce in the past and we wish him well in his new role.

Over 200 young people enjoyed the camp over the last weekend in June. Activities ranged from traditional Scouting skills to laser combat, climbing, first aid simulation and much more. Thanks to all the Adults and Young Leaders that made it such a success and specifically to Brucey for pulling it all together.

We are pleased to announce that Richard Galliford, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List for his work with the youth of Barnsley and overseas. Richard worked as a Scout Leader and a Venture Scout Leader within the District, leading a trip to Romania to undertake work at an orphanage prior to going out to Ghana with a group of Venture Scouts where they built and furnished a school. As a result of his involvement in Ghana there are now strong links between Penistone Scouts and a Scout Group formed in Ghana and a number of schools have been set up.

Richard is a member of the Scout Fellowship within Barnsley Pennine District

Andrew and Amanda attended the Supporter’s Garden Party on the occasion of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award 50th Anniversary in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace on Thursday 13th July 2006. They had a very enjoyable day.
